Plants Can Improve Your Health

Studies indicate that just being in a plant rich environment can improve your health. Theories vary as to why this occurs. Reduced blood pressure, decreased muscle tension, reduction of headaches and other pains have all been studied . Two very interesting findings are quicker recovery times after exposure to stress and need for less pain medication after surgery. In the words of Larry Dossey (2001) " Perhaps it is the sacredness we sense in plants that accounts for their ability to summon us to greater health when we are in their presence"

Summer Herb Garden

I frequently hear "I planted an herb garden but it died , I guess that I just don't have a green thumb" . Actually ,herbs are very easy plants to grow. They thrive in the ground or in pots. Herb gardening in Florida is a little different then in cooler climates. Often adjustments need to be made. For example, instructions such as "plant in full sun" may really mean plant in partial shade here in Florida. Planting dates are often vastly different then for the rest of the country. My herb garden is rich in basil, sage, aloe, stevia, thyme ,and rosemary right now. My chamomile, calandula, and dill, coriander have been harvested . My mint is doing well this year as is its relative ,catnip. I welcome questions and would love to hear how your Florida herb garden is growing.

Herb garden

Today ,I hand harvested coriander. It was fragrant, easy and pleasant work. I took some of the seeds and replanted them so that I will have cilantro for the rest of the summer. Coriander /cilantro is very easy to grow in a back yard or lage pot.
